Our Story

In the picturesque town of Crookwell, Australia, 10th generation sock maker Andrew Lindner is continuing a family tradition almost 300 years in the making.

HOW WE BEGAN

Using vintage machinery brought to Australia from Germany by his parents Wilfred and Gisela, Andrew expertly knits socks using the tried and tested techniques of his forbears.

Every sock is then individually separated and carefully hand finished, making every purchase of Lindner Socks an investment in quality and craftsmanship. For more information about how our socks are made, please see Sock Construction.

The Lindner Socks story began in Thalheim, near Chemnitz, Germany from as early as 1730. To read more about our history, please see Our Heritage.

While its evolution continues, the focus remains on tradition, craftsmanship, family and community. To read more, see Our Values.

HOW WE'VE EVOLVED

Andrew, along with Gisela and his wife Lucy, took over the reins in 2008, with Andrew focused on knitting, Gisela overseeing the orders, sock shop and sewing room, and Lucy in charge of branding and marketing.

During that time Lindner Socks has undergone a re-branding, introduced a range of Apparel, moved to plastic-free packaging, created local jobs, fostered a family-friendly work environment, established connections with local wool growers and charitable organisations, and is working towards a 100% Australian supply chain.

Currently, our wool is sourced locally through Australian wool supply company, Wool Connect and the Alpaca yarn used in Lindner products is sourced from Australian Alpaca Yarn.

The trio have also created five distinct product collections with a sock style for every occasion and weather condition (all of which are experienced in Crookwell at one time or another throughout the year!)

They include the Heritage collection named in honour of Lindner family sock makers throughout the generations; the Tablelands collection which is proudly made from fine merino wool grown locally in the NSW Southern Tablelands; the Luxury collection which features socks made from a beautiful blend of fine, locally-grown merino wool and alpaca fibers; the Pure Merino collection which includes 100% merino wool apparel and accessories knitted exclusively for Lindner Socks in South Australia; and the Renew Collection, which features sustainable socks and accessories.
